Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson has successfully secured $4,000,000 for the Stanley Workforce Housing Economic Development Initiative in Stanley, Idaho. The funding was included in the Fiscal Year 2024 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Bill at his request through Community Project Funding (CPF).

In response to criticisms of CPF projects as "wasteful earmarks," Congressman Simpson emphasized the importance of bringing Idaho tax dollars back home for Idaho priorities. He stated, "These projects fill a clear and present need in communities across Idaho and enjoy broad community support." The federal dollars designated for CPF projects are within existing budget limits, allowing Idahoans to have a say in determining where budgeted funding goes.

Rep. Simpson highlighted the housing challenges faced by employees in Stanley, stating, "Between high construction costs, the short tourist season, and the lack of available land, temporary and permanent employees throughout Stanley have faced a pressing housing challenge." He emphasized the impact of prioritizing affordable workforce housing on the lives of Stanley employees and the community.

Stanley City Mayor Steve Botti echoed the sentiment, acknowledging the increasing importance of Stanley as the gateway to outdoor recreation in the Sawtooth Valley. He expressed gratitude for Congressman Mike Simpson's efforts, stating, "This timely assistance will help Stanley provide the means for sustainable economic development to improve the quality of life for both Stanley residents and visitors alike."

The $4 million Economic Development Initiative funding will be utilized to construct affordable housing for up to 80 temporary and permanent employees and their families in Stanley, Idaho. This initiative aims to address the shortage of workforce housing in the area and provide better opportunities for economic growth by making year-round housing available.

As Idaho’s only appropriator, Rep. Simpson remains committed to advocating for Idaho’s priorities and ensuring that tax dollars benefit the state. He was the sole member of the Idaho delegation to vote in favor of funding for Stanley Workforce Housing.
