WASHINGTON—Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson has cosponsored the Waiving Arbitrary and Inconsistent Veteran Home Requirements (WAIVER) Act, a bill aimed at supporting Idaho State Veterans Homes. The legislation would compel the United States Veterans Administration (VA) to issue waivers for veterans’ health and housing facilities that were approved prior to the Build America, Buy America Act (BABAA).

In a statement, Rep. Simpson emphasized the importance of the VA honoring its waiver commitment to fulfill promises made to veterans: "It’s important for the VA to follow through with this waiver commitment so we can fulfill the promises made to those who served in our nation’s uniform. I’m calling on the VA to work with me on a solution for these projects and critically important services for Idaho Veterans." Simpson also highlighted his unwavering dedication to supporting veterans, saying, "Make no mistake, our veterans served our nation in our time of need, and I consider it my duty to stand with them in their time of need. I will continue to advocate for both veterans in Idaho and our veterans’ health and housing facilities and will not rest until we find a solution."

The Idaho State Veterans Home expansion, which has already been approved, is currently facing delays due to the BABAA. Without the necessary waiver, these projects risk losing vital funding. Among the affected facilities in Idaho are those in Boise, Lewiston, and Pocatello. Furthermore, BABAA waiver issues have impacted projects in 13 states, including Idaho.
